Engaging in AI through project work (Jun 2021)

Join Jackie Child and Martin Richards as Jackie shares her insights into implementing AI projects with her classes of students.

Jackie will share projects given to her year 3 class as well as an example with her Yr 8 class. We'll talk through the project work and explain the stages her students went through in their learning. Jackie will also share her learning journey with regards to discovering more about the facinating world of Artificial Intelligence. Finally we will bring it all together and show how AI can be used as a context for learning demonstrating the curriculum links.

Jackie Child has been teaching primary aged students in different countries for over 40 years. She is passionate about how children learn through constructivist pedagogy. In her blog http://tinkeringchild.com/ she describes the many benefits of ‘making’ to learn. She is an enthusiastic tinkerer who fixes and builds things constantly, whether it’s at school, home or in her garden. Jackie has held many positions in both administration and teaching including Deputy Principal, Head of Sport and Head of Art and Display. She has been a Teacher Librarian at St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School and is now Junior School Technologies Coordinator. She is a sessional tutor at Griffith University for pre-service teachers preparing for a digital classroom. Jackie doesn’t believe in standing still, there is always plenty to ‘do’ and learn!

Martin Richards is the Content Manager on the DT Hub. Martin has lead the development of the AI lesson plans and video explainers.
